After a lot of leaks from past couple of months, we finally witnessed the launch of Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Both these smartphones are the representative smartphones of Google in 2018. After the brilliant software, outstanding camera performance and screen issues of Pixel 2 & 2 XL, expectations from both these new phones are very high. So are these devices stands on our expectations ? Let’s find out.
Google Pixel 3 :
This is the compact smartphone amongst the two. It sports the same screen size of 5.5 inch, but thankfully this time it has 18:9 aspect ratio. It is a Full HD+ P-OLED panel with resolution of 2160×1080 and 443ppi. Other display enhancement includes HDR support, Always on Display, and a new Boosted mode. This mode will make the colours more punchier and vibrant by increasing sRGB percentage to 10% more. Furthermore it is covered with Gorilla Glass 5.
Talking about the performance, it has the current flagship processor i.e. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 octa core processor which is clocked at 2.5Ghz and built on 10nm process. It has the Adreno 630 GPU which can run every graphic heavy game easily. Sadly this year also we won’t see 6GB RAM in Pixel phones, as this Pixel 3 only has 4GB of RAM. Storage is also same at 64GB and 128GB which is not expandable.
Coming to Camera, it has single 12.2MP rear camera with OIS, 1.4µm pixel size, f1.8 lens and dual pixel autofocus. The HDR+ is once again supported on this device. It has a new feature called ‘Top Shot’. It’s an AI feature which will detect that in the photo everyone is in focus, and everyone’s eyes are open. To fill the absence of Telephoto lens, this device has Super Res Zoom. This feature will click more detailed photo by zooming in, through AI of course. Another new feature is Night Sight. This feature will add more detail to the low light photos and make them more brighter as well as less noisier. It can record video up to 4k but at just 30fps, no 60fps. But good thing is it has it’s own Fused Video Stabilization. This will give more smoother and stable videos while walking as well as jogging. Though it gives best output on 1080p, but it works for 4k as well.
On the front side it has two camera of 8MP + 8MP sensors. The primary 78° camera sensor has f1.8 lens with PDAF, whereas secondary camera had wider 97° sensor but with f2.0 lend and fixed focus. Also both the front cameras has digital image stabilization.
It runs on latest Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, and that’s expected though. It will get 3 major android updates. It has slightly increased yet very low 2915mAh battery capacity with support of 18W fast charging and 10W wireless charging. While being on wireless charger, the phone will become Google Home, photo frame, and typical alarm clock. It has front firing speakers for immersive audio, and a Type-C Pixel Buds will be bundled in the box as it’s also following the traditional of no 3.5mm jack just like the predecessors. Furthermore, it had IP68 certification for dust and water resistance.
Fingerprint sensor is present at the back, so no in-display fingerprint sensor this time. For connectivity it had 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, USB Type-C port, Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD audio quality and NFC. It comes in Just Black, Clearly White, and Not Pink colour options.
Google Pixel 3 XL :
Now this is the bigger one and by slight margin, more high end smartphone as compared to regular Pixel 3. Major difference between both devices are in display. This Pixel 3 XL sports a 6.3 inch P-OLED Quad HD+ panel with 2960×1440 resolution and 532ppi. It has 18.5:9 aspect ratio which means that it has the ‘notch’ feature. This has indeed a big notch despite lacking 3D optics like iPhone X, XS and XS Max. Other display features like HDR support and sRGB Booster mode is same as Pixel 3.
The battery capacity of this phone is 3430 mAh, which is bigger than regular Pixel 3 but slightly smaller than Pixel 2 XL. Rest all the features are exactly same as Pixel 3, so head over to Pixel 3 section and read all specifications in detail.
Pricing & Availability :
Pixel 3 64GB = $799 or ₹71,000 /-
Pixel 3 128GB = $899 or ₹80,000 /-
Pixel 3 XL 64 GB = $899 or ₹83,000 /-
Pixel 3 XL 128GB = $999 or ₹92,000 /-

Personally speaking, I found both Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL very dull as compared to competitors. But just like last year, Google might surprise everyone with it’s software capabilities. So just wait and watch. Well, what are your thoughts on both these smartphones ? Let me know in the comment section below. Also stay tuned with us for more information.
