The search engine giant Google has recently announced that the company is gearing up to implement a new policy regarding inactive Gmail accounts and the same will enhance the security as well as the new policy will optimize storage space.
The new setup will be implemented later this year and Google will mark inactive accounts for those Gmail accounts which are inactive for at least 2 years and the same will be deleted. It is worth mentioning that YouTube videos will not be deleted to preserve history.
Google will start the deleting process in December this year and the company is planning to take a phased approach. It will start the new policy with the Gmail accounts that were created but never utilized. Google will push multiple notifications to inform users before deleting.
If you want to keep your account active then you need to sign in or perform basic actions such as reading or sending emails. Using Google Drive or watching videos on YouTube and downloading applications from Google Play Store as well as sign in to Android devices will be considered as activity. It is worth mentioning that Google Photos already has a separate to your sign-in and usage policy to ensure an account to activate. If you have a subscription to Google Play Store such as Google One or third-party applications then it will also be considered as active.
