Today the Mountain view tech giant Google has unveiled the new Pixel 5 for the world. It is accompanied by the upgraded version of the Pixel 4A. These smartphones represent the companies vision of how Android phones should be. It is clear that they have shifted focus from the raw hardware specs towards a cleaner and fluid software experience. This time the Pixel Series smartphones come with a moderate midrange specification sheet instead of cutting edge hardware. Let us see the complete details about the two smartphones.
It features a 6-inch full-HD+ OLED display with 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution along with a punch-hole setup at the top-left of the device, and the same features a 90 Hz refresh rate, and supports HDR rating, it also sports a 20:9 aspect ratio and the same is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6. It is powered by the midrange 5G chipset, Snapdragon 765G SoC from Qualcomm, and the same is matted with 8GB of RAM. In terms of storage, the device supports 128GB of internal storage.
Moving to the photography department, the latest Google Pixel 5 rocks a tried and tested dual-rear camera setup and that is in the combination of a 12.2-megapixel primary sensor having f/1.7 aperture. Its also touting dual pixel PDAF and 1.4-micron pixel size with support for both OIS and EIS. This is followed by a 16-megapixel secondary ultrawide angle sensor with 107-degree FOV, f/2.2 aperture. ON the front, the punch hole houses an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture and 83-degree FOV. The rear camera is capable of recording 4K videos at 60fps or 1080P videos at 240fps. The front camera is also capable of shooting videos in 1080P at 30fps.
Regarding the connectivity options, the smartphone supports 5G(both mmWave and sub-6GHz), 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. The other features include stereo speakers, IP68 dust and water resistance, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. It is backed by a 4,080 mAh battery that charges at 18W and will run on the new Android 11 OS out of the box. It weighs 151 grams and is 8mm thick. There is a fingerprint scanner at the back of the phone for added biometric security.
Pixel 4A 5G
The pixel 4A 5G comes with several upgrades over the vanilla Pixel 4A. Starting with the display, it features a larger 6.2-inch OLED display with a Full HD+ resolution at 413 PPI. The 60 Hz display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 and it houses the selfie camera inside a punch-hole cut out on the left side, like its 4G version. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 765G SoC and is paired with 6 GB of RAM. In terms of storage, the smartphone supports 128 GB of internal storage with the UFS 2.1 storage and it does not have the option to expand the storage.
Moving to the photography department, the Google Pixel 4A rocks the same dual-camera setup as seen in Pixel 5. There is a primary shooter with a 12.2-megapixel resolution along with a 16-megapixel ultrawide angle secondary camera. It comes with all the major features from Google like Night Sight, Portrait Light mode, Cinematic Pan, and Top Shot. Google has also thrown in OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) to keep your videos steady. On the front, the smartphone supports an 8MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture but lacks autofocus. Google has stuck to the good old physical fingerprint scanner at the back with is fast and accurate.
Regarding the connectivity options, the smartphone supports 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. The Pixel 4A runs Android 11 out of the box in its vanilla flavor. The smartphone packs a 3,885 mAh battery that supports Power Delivery 2.0 18W fast charging. This makes it one of the lightest smartphones this year, at just 143 grams.
Pricing and Availability
The Google Pixel 5 will be available for $699, making it $100 cheaper than Pixel 4 which started at $799 at launch. It will be available in Just Black and Sorta Sage colours. The Pixel 4A 5G is priced at $499. It’s available in Just Black Colour. The Pixel 5 smartphone shipping will begin from October 15 whereas Pixel 4A 5G will only be available in Japan on that day, with more countries to get by November.
