Google’s own voice assistant known as Google Assistant is widely used by smartphone users to with raw facts or sometimes says “sorry, I don’t understand” when it fails to understand queries or fetch data. To improve this, Google has informed that they are working on LaMDA project (Language Model for Dialogue Applications) to make it sound natural with the help of AI.
Google is aiming to make the Google Assistant conversations more natural and open-ended. Unlike the current version, it will not be felt like a robot spitting out facts and it will adapt to the context of the conversations. Soon you might be able to converse with Google Assistant about movies, TV shows or different places.
The Google I/O showcased further examples of this technology and shows how you can converse with the dwarf planet Pluto or a paper aircraft, learning more about them while you talk. Google says it is still “early” and that they are focusing on training it to give witty ansswers while sticking to data. In the future we might get to see the AI truly be a human’s companion.
