Honor is currently developing the next generation flagship smartphone series dubbed the Honor Magic 9 series and now a device of the smartphone series appears online with the camera details and it is reported that the company will be launching the device with a square front camera. It seems that the square front camera is going to be the new trend in the smartphone industry, as recently Oppo was also reported to introduce the same mechanism in its upcoming Oppo Find X9. It is reported that the prototype has two different 200MP main sensor options including the OV52A/OV52B at 1/1.28-inch size and the larger OVB0D at 1/1.12-inch. The company will be testing and finalising the primary camera for the final device.
The device is also expected to come with a 64MP periscope telephoto lens using the OmniVision OV64D sensor with a 1/2-inch format. It is also reported that the upcoming device is being evaluated with a 100MP OVA0B sensor measuring 1/1.8 inches. It is said that the image will be cropped into a 1:1 square aspect ratio.
Based on the previous reports, the upcoming smartphone series is expected to come with a compact 6.36-inch OLED display along with a large battery of around 8,000mAh, and testing with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 mobile processor which will be announced in September.
The devices will be coming with IP68/IP69 protection and ultrasonic fingerprint scanning. It will be running on the latest Android 17 operating system out of the box. We can also expect new AI features on the board. The smartphone series is also expected to support ARRI to improve video processing and cinematic output.
