How To Enable RCS Feature On Google Messages

Rich Communication Service (RCS) is the next generation protocol of SMS and it is the most modern attempt to do communication without any instant messaging applications. Well, we are hearing about the RCS feature for a very long time and now the setup is official, you can experience it on Google Messages app.

Having said that, the popular telecom operators of the country – Airtel, Jio, and Vodafone Idea joined their hands with Google to follow the guidelines and bring the feature in India. Well, now Google has rolled out the RCS feature on its Messages application and the feature is available in India as well. However, the telecom operators may not roll out the feature due to their own reasons but there’s a way to enable it. So, let’s check out how to enable the feature and the way to use it.

What’s RCS?

RCS stands for Rich Communication Services and it is meant to replace the traditional SMS, and that can be dubbed as the chat service which will be connected and powered by Google instead of the mobile network. That’s not all, the RCS will offer more than the regular texting and similar to the WhatsApp or Facebook Messager. It will allow text formatting, video calls, media file attachments, emojis, and stickers.

How to enable

As I mentioned above, the telecom operators are working to meet the guidelines to roll out the feature for the users of India and this may take time. However, the trick which I am going to present in front of you will help you to get the feature right away.

Before we get into it, make sure you have updated the Google Messages application to the latest version and you also need to install the Activity Launcher.

• Launch the Activity Launcher app and tap on the “Recent activities” and select “All activities”, and select the Messages activity.
• Then find the “Set RCS Flags” sub-activity and tap it, it will bring the “Set RCS Flags” section.
• Now tap on the “ACS Url” field and select the “http://rcs-acs-prod-us.sandbox.google.com”.
• And select the “OTP Pattern” and select “YoursMessengersverificationscodesissG-(d{6}).” Now tap on the “Apply”.
• Now force close the Messages app, then open the Messages app and it will bring the “New! See when friends are typing” with the button “Upgrade Now”. Select it to land on the title “Do more with Messages”.
• Just tap on the “Next” button, and it will send an OTP request to your telecom operator. Once the verification process completes, you will get the RCS Chat features.
• Having said that, you can also verify the setup by heading to the “Chat features” section in the “Settings” of Google Messages.
