HTC has unveiled the VIVE standalone VR headset at the ChinaJoy entertainment expo for China. HTC is already struggling to make it’s space in the smartphone profit share but now wants to focus on portable VR headsets as well. They have teamed up with Qualcomm to bring a portable VR headset, especially for China.

As of now, there’s not much information on specs and availability but what we do know is that it comes with Snapdragon 835 mobile VR SoC with the chip having built in VR support. It looks very similar to the HTC Daydream VR headset, the difference being that it does not only rely on Google Play Store.
This headset is considered to be a high-end VR headset that will also run apps from HTC’s VIVEPORT platform. The HTC VIVEPORT platform has VR apps in several categories. Users will be given an immersive experience, be it Gaming, using Educational Apps or Touring around in new landscapes with tourism apps. As of now the VR is exclusive to China only but may launch in other countries pretty soon.
