We are hearing about the self-developed operating system of Chinese telecommunication giant Huawei from the past couple of months, and it was also reported that the company will replace Android with its own operating system during the period of isolation in the tech world. Well, today the company has officially announced the HarmonyOS at the annual Huawei Developers Conference in Dongguan, China.
During the developer’s conference, Richard Yu, CEO said that the company is developing the HarmonyOS since 2017, and it can be used on a wide range of devices such as smartphones, wearables, TVs, tablets, laptops, and even cars.
A modularized #HarmonyOS can be nested to adapt flexibly to any device to create a seamless cross-device experience. Developed via the distributed capability kit, it builds the foundation of a shared developer ecosystem #HDC2019 pic.twitter.com/2TD9cgtdG8

Speaking about the HarmonyOS, it is based on a microkernel and that means the operating system will use as few resources, which will offer fast operating speeds and minimum latency levels. The operating system is an open-source and offers a TEE (Trusted Execution Environment) to give the maximum layer of security across all devices. Furthermore, the Arc compiler in OS can support all the major programming languages such as C/, C++, Java, JavaScript, and Kotlin.

Richard Yu also said that the company is not planning to replace Android with the HarmonyOS, but that can replace on the various devices. The company also confirmed that the operating system will debut on Honor device tomorrow.
