Huawei was on a dream run before the US government decided to ban its products in the country. Now even though they have good numbers in the European markets, with Google services taken away, their business might take a hit soon. This forces them to look to other streams for revenue and Huawei have decided to manufacture GPU.
The company is setting up a research centre in South Korea with help from the top of the line engineers from Nvidia. These chips will not be the ones that take up the graphics departments of smartphones and tablets but those which are inside the servers used for cloud computing and AI.
Nvidia currently dominates this field, and Huawei now wants a piece of it. Rumours are that Huawei has been trying their hands in this field since 2012 and they are finally ready to present their creation to the world. Huawei might enter the cloud computing and gaming scene with these in-house GPUs to tackle giants like Google and Microsoft.
