During the launch of P40 Series, Huawei also presented their credit card, called Huawei Card. Its the answer to Apple Card which has become quite popular in the USA. Huawei Card can only be used throughout China at the moment.
There will be two versions of this card. A virtual version, available through the Huawei Pay app and a physical card as well. The physical card will support contactless payment, which Apple Card cannot. You need to be eligible for the card based on credit score and has to own a Huawei smartphone too.
Users will be able to apply for Huawei Card from the Wallet app in their device. The card is backed by Chinese giant UnionPay and it supports payment via NFC and QR codes as well, something which the Apple Card lacks. Customers who use Huawei Pay for transactions will also be eligible for cashback. Other benefits of the card include lounge access at selected train stations and airports, though, for this, users will have to meet the required spending quota.
Huawei Card requires an annual fee for usage. But the first year will be free for all users. The second-year annual fee will also be waived off for customers who spend a certain amount through the card. If users link their Huawei Card to Huawei Pay, the annual fee would be waived off for up to four years. The system is protected by 3D Secure and follows security protocols from Huawei.
With Apple recently scoring permit to operate Apple Card in China from the People’s Bank of China. Sometime soon, Apple could start operation with the help and partnership from Mastercard.         Huawei card, which is now operational can give a much-needed head-start for the company in its home country.
