We all know that VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) was started by Jio back in 2016, which bought a good change in mobile calling. It brings services like HD voice calling, 4G use while on call, and faster call connection time. Seeing this, Airtel as well as Vodafone also launched VoLTE service to some regions in the country. Now one of the largest telecom operator is also going this race. Idea Cellular is now launching their VoLTE service in India.
Idea initially started their VoLTE service earlier this month, but that was just for testing purpose and for idea employees only. Now today they made it available for common Idea users as well. The company is also offering 10GB of free 4G data to all it’s customers. This free data can be availed by making a VoLTE call within 48 hours of their 1st VoLTE call.
As of now, Idea Cellular is launching this service in selected states:
- Andhra Pradesh
- Chhattisgarh
- Gujarat
- Goa
- Kerela
- Madhya Pradesh
- Maharashtra (Mumbai not included)
- Tamil Nadu
- Telangana
Idea VoLTE services will start from 2nd of May i.e. from tomorrow. Users don’t need to pay any extra amount for making VoLTE calls, all charges will be applicable in same way as normal calls. But for those who still don’t know, idea has some plans which give competition to Jio. For example, there’s a plan of Rs.398, in which users will get 1.4GB 4G data per day for 70 days, along with free calling all over the country, free messages, and free roaming.
As of now hardly any smartphone has support for Idea VoLTE, but officials said that they are working with several OEMs to provide idea VoLTE via future OTA updates for the possible number of smartphones. We will start getting Idea VoLTE support in smartphones by next month.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. Personally speaking, I am very excited for this move by the company, because in my region Idea works best, both in terms of the internet as well as voice calls. So it would be interesting to see how well Idea VoLTE will work as compared to Jio VoLTE. Now, what are your thoughts on this ? Do share them in the comment section below.
