The Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw has officially announced that India is all set to take a major step in the world of Artificial Intelligence and the country will be developing its own foundational AI model which will be similar to ChatGPT and DeepSeek, and it is also confirmed to make available at an affordable cost. The upcoming AI model of India will be introduced in the time period of 10 months.
It is said that over the last one-and-a-half years, researchers in India have been developing an AI ecosystem framework to support its own foundational AI model. The upcoming AI model will be tailored for Indian users and the same will address the linguistic and contextual demands while eliminating biases and fostering inclusivity.
The honorable minister has also highlighted India’s computational prowess and it is also said that the upcoming AI model of the country is being developed with a computational facility of around 18,693 GPUs.
It is also said that around 10,000 of these GPUs have already been deployed while the remaining 8,693 GPUs will be added very soon. It is also revealed that the upcoming AI model of India will cost Rs 100 of per hour usage after getting a subsidy of 40 percent from the government.
The Union Minister also announced that the India Safety Institute will be setup under the India AI Mission and it will work with various stakeholders including academia, startups, industry, and government bodies towards.
