The Government of India ready to provide internet-free video streaming via Direct-to-Mobile technology and this will enable users to enjoy content without internet connectivity. The new service will help users to enjoy live TV and other multimedia content streaming even without inserting a SIM card into their devices.
It is said that the government is planning to pilot this service in 19 cities across the country. D2M will have the power of Prasar Bharti’s infrastructure for the pilot along with IIT Kanpur and Bengaluru-based Saankhya Labs. It is worth mentioning that this particular technology is already being used to provide emergency alerts and disaster management.
To enjoy the service, devices must need specific hardware components to support D2M. So we can expect the upcoming devices to come with the required hardware on the board. The report also says that the new implementation could increase the pricing of the device by at least USD 30.
