Instagram is not only offering entertainment features but the developers are bringing some really useful features including safety features like restricting unwanted comments along with the ability to customise the profile among others. Now the company has added a new safety feature that will offer suicide and self harm search alerts for parents.
It is worth mentioning that the newly added feature will be working for only those parents who have already turned on the “Instagram Supervision” tool. Once the feature is enabled, if a teen tries to look up phrases that suggest self harm within a short period of time, an alert will be triggered.
Instagram will be sending notification to parents via email, text message, WhatsApp, or an in-app alert, depending on the contact information available. Tapping the notification will be opening a full-screen message explaining that their teen has repeatedly attempted to search for phrases like suicide or self-harm.
The feature will be available in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. The company is also planning to expand it to additional regions later in 2026. This is really helpful feature by Instagram as this can help parents to rescue the kids from the unwanted thoughts.
