In the last year, Instagram confirmed that it was prototyping a new Stories design with vertical scrolling similar to TikTok – but the details were unknown. Now the social network is finally experimenting with the new design with a small group of users. So far, the stories are scrolling horizontally.
Instagram is testing the new vertical scroll in Turkey and Brazil. It will be positioned according to the touch control reels and the rival tik tok.
Now with a vertical scroll, you can move from one user’s story to another, while the horizontal swipe will switch between different stories from the same user.
This change is an attempt to compete with Tik Tok. It already offers vertical. As a result, Instagram also focuses on stories and videos rather than static content scrolling in its app.
In December, the maximum limit for videos in Instagram stories was raised from 15 seconds to 60 seconds. Although users can already post videos up to 1 minute long on Instagram stories, they are divided into four videos of 15 seconds each.
It is not clear if the new method of scrolling stories will reach users, and even if it’s certainly coming. At this point, Instragram may be testing A / B and deciding not to roll the feature as a whole.
