Intel announces its new powerful Tiger lake processer powered with its home-built integrated Xe graphics and AI accelerator at CES 2020. As the pioneer chip maker, this time Intel integrates another feature -the thunderbolt 4 connectors to their machine (DG1). As they say, it is expected to perform four times faster than the USB but not been sure that is can supersede thunderbolt 3 in terms of speed. Yet, this new version of the external connector promises exceptional performance and quality. More information about the added functionalities of thunderbolt 4 is not available. However, it seems much like a redefined version of the thunderbolt 3 interface. But, they leave a hint that assures the new version will possess additional features. Further, it regulates under intel’s guidance and intel liberalized it on open standards.
Significantly, the new thunderbolt uses the same USB-C plug and it is not yet obvious it is based on PCIe 4.0. To demystify all these clouds the users have to wait for the next announcement by Intel.
Though the upgraded thunderbolt updates are awaited by the users, the upcoming USB 4 is expected to gain more adoption.
As USB 4 is royalty-free at the same time stands on thunderbolt 3 and offers the same speed it is likely to grab more attention than thunderbolt 4. The first machine with this upgraded chip is supposed to hit the market by end of this year.
