The Indian telecom Jio and Mountain View giant Google is teaming up to boost cloud computing platforms and to deliver consumer-ready 5G connectivity. The partnership between Jio and Google aims to further develop digital services and help small to medium business along with millions of customers.
The strategic partnership between both parties could help each other as Google has the tech expertise needed and Jio has the subscriber base one could dream of. The CEO at Google Cloud, Thomas Kurian commented, “It’s a broad partnership, it involves multiple pieces of Alphabet working together,” ahead of Reliance’s annual shareholder’s meeting in an interview given to Reuters. “Our own partnership spans multiple parts of Jio not just the communications business… but also health, retail and other things. And it allows us to bring our technology to many consumers in India on a broad-scale basis as well as to many businesses that are served by Reliance.”, he added. The scale Jio-Google partnership according to Google Cloud CEO is among the biggest across the globe.
However, Thomas Kurian refused to comment about the cloud contract between Google and Jio. Prior to this commitment, Jio got into an alliance with Microsoft in 2019 to build data centres across India that will be hosted on the Azure cloud. This partnership was aimed to aid the trending start-up culture in the country.
Last year Google had invested $4.5 billion in the Ambani owned company in exchange for a board seat in Jio Enterprise alongside Facebook who spend $5.7 billion for the same. At present Jio is the biggest telecom in the country with more than 422 million customers and this is a big achievement considering the fact that Jio came into the field just five years ago. \
