If we talk about the software updates on smartphones, most of the OEMs do get late in providing software updates even to their flagship devices, forget about the mid-rangers. There are few OEMs who provide timely software updates to their devices, mainly due to good software support and being on stock Android. While Google is currently testing next Android version on their Pixel devices, there are OEMs who haven’t even given Oreo to update their latest devices. Now concerning more towards the software support, famous electronic giant LG is building a new Campus only for software support of their smartphones.
LG has announced that they are going to open ‘Global Software Upgrade Center’. With this new center, LG will provide “Faster, Timelier, Smartphone operating system and software updates” for their smartphones around the globe. This new center is established at LG’s new campus in Magok-Dong, in South Korea. At this new center, LG will not only focus on faster Android updates but will also focus on more stability and hardware/software compatibility of their devices to that they can have a longer lifespan. LG’s current target is to give Oreo update to LG G6 for South Korea by next month, leading to other regions later on.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. Personally, I do feel that this is a great move by LG in the direction towards the software support. Hope we will see future software updates on LG devices earlier as well as more stable, even on older and midrange devices. Well, what are your thoughts on this new center?
