Back in August, LG launched their latest flagship smartphone LG V30/V30+. It was considered as a very great smartphone by many reviewers. Now over the past few days, we were getting some rumours which suggested that LG might launch a new variant of LG V30/V30+ at MWC event in Barcelona. Now today, at the beginning of MWC, LG made it official. They launched an upgraded model of LG V30, named as LG V30S ThinQ & V30S+ ThinQ.
The major changes in both these devices are in terms of AI (Artificial Intelligence) capabilities. It got a new Vision AI technology which will add some interesting software enhancements in camera. It has three different camera capabilities named as AI CAM, QLens, and Bright Mode. So let’s see what these features can do:
1. AI CAM:
This AI CAM technology is capable to recognize the subject and environment in the camera and will set the best camera settings possible according to the particular subject or environment. This feature is very similar to what we have seen in Honor View 10. As of now, this device has support for eight different conditions; Food, Pet, Flower, Portrait, Landscape, City, Sunrise, and Sunset. Probably we might see more conditions in future updates.
2. QLens:
This QLens feature can recognize the particular objects in camera frame; like images search, shopping links, and price of any product available online. This feature is somewhat similar to what we have seen on Google Lens. This QLens feature can also recognize QR Code and Barcode directly from the default camera.
3. Bright Mode:
Now talking about the last feature of this new camera i.e. Bright Mode, this technology will enhance the low light photography. With its software AI, it can adjust the level of brightness as well as camera grains. Now, this feature looks something new, which we haven’t seen anywhere as of now. It will be the first time to see a better low light performance with AI technology.
Coming to the other changes of these devices. Both these devices will come with LG’s own AI based Voice assistant, named as Voice AI feature. As of now, this is not as much capable as Google Assistant, but it can change some phone’s settings which Google Assistant can’t. Also, the Google Assistant will also be there. The previous LG V30/V30+ comes with 4GB of RAM, now this new LG V30S ThinQ and V30S+ ThinQ will have 6GB of RAM. On LG V30s, the internal storage is bumped up to 128GB from 64GB, and on LG V30S+ it’s bumped up to 246GB from 128GB. Both these devices will be available in two new colours; New Moroccan Blue and New Platinum Grey colours.
Rest of the specs remains same as LG V30/V30+. The 6” Quad HD+ OLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio, Snapdragon 835 processor, 16MP + 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, 3300mAh battery with fast charging, Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with LG’s own skin, 32bit Hi-fi Quad DAC for better audio via headphone jack and IP68 certification.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. Till now we don’t have any information about the pricing and availability of both these devices. Personally speaking, this device looks quite interesting in terms of AI technology, but apart from that, there’s nothing new. Like they used the same Snapdragon 835 processor, instead of Snapdragon 845 processor. I think that they should instead launch LG G7 with all these capabilities and Snapdragon 845 processor.
