Smartphone gaming is involved so much in the past 2 years. A lot of gaming centric smartphones are launched which are designed for hard-core gamers. Back in April Qualcomm launched Snapdragon 730 and 730G mid-range chipsets designed for gaming. Now MediaTek, one of the competitors of Qualcomm announced their mid-range chipsets targeting gaming performance.
At an event in New Delhi today, MediaTek announced Helio G90 and Helio G90T chipsets which will compete with Snapdragon 730 and 730G. Both are octa core CPUs clocked at 2.05Ghz including ARM Cortex-A76 (G90T) and Cortex-A55 (G90) cores. For gaming, both have Mali-G76 3EEMC4 GPU. Both SoCs has HyperEngine Gaming Engine for a better connection between smartphone and cellular network. Also, it supports dual Wi-Fi, through which users can connect to two Wi-Fi connections simultaneously.
Both SoCs have support for Full HD+ display with up to 21:9 aspect ratio and HDR10 for 10-bit colour depth. For connectivity, it has LTE Cat-12 support. Also, both can support LPDDR4x RAM. Now talking about some differences, Helio G90 has support for 60hz panel, up to 8GB RAM, and a 48MP camera on triple camera setup. While the Helio G90T supports up to 90hz panel, 10GB RAM, and 64MP camera on a quad camera setup.
Both SoCs surpassed Snapdragon 730 and 730G in benchmarks. Helio G90 and G90T outperforms Snapdragon 730 and 730G on AnTuTu with difference of 3% and 7% respectively. On Geekbench 4.1, both of them have a difference of 9-10% from Qualcomm CPUs. But do note that benchmarks are just numbers, actual performance might be a bit different.
Xiaomi has already announced at the event that they will bring Helio G90T powered smartphone very soon. As of now, no other OEM announced the availability of these chipsets into their smartphones. But we will see these chipsets in many mid-range smartphones later this year. So stay tuned with us for more information.
