Meizu doesn’t have a strong presence outside China. But that does not stop them from offering some attention-worthy gadgets. After all the leaks and teasing, Meizu 17 and 17 Pro goes official and it is beautiful. Specifications and Features
Both devices are identical in looks and most of the specifications, except for some minor changes, Both phones have a 6.6-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with 90 Hz refresh rate and it also comes with a punch-hole at the top right corner of the screen housing a 20-megapixel selfie camera. Both smartphones have an aspect ratio of 19:5:9 and support HDR10+ media playback. Like most smartphones these days, Meizu 17 Series also has an in-display fingerprint scanner for unlocking the device. It is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM. In terms of storage, the device comes with 128 GB or 256 GB UFS 3.1 internal storage. These smartphones are equipped with dual speakers and Meizu’s in-house mEngine 3.0 for rich haptic feedback.
In terms of optics, Meizu 17 Series uses a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 camera as primary. Rest is quite different in both phones. The Meizu 17 Pro has an 8-megapixel telephoto camera that offers up to 8x lossless zoom, along with a 32-megapixel ultrawide lens with the ability to take 129-degree wide pictures. Finally, there is a new Samsung S5K3 3D ToF camera for AR and depth measuring. Wheres Meizu 17 settles for a 12-megapixel wide-angle shooter and another 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. The Meizu 17 lacks a telephoto lens but instead got slapped with a 5-megapixel unit.
Both phones have a battery capacity of 4,500 mAh and support 30 Watt wired charging. But the Meizu 17 Pro can also charge wirelessly at a rate of 27 Watt. Both phones come with Flyme 8.1 based on Android 10 out of the box. The other main difference is that the Meizu 17 Pro has a ceramic back as opposed to a glass back on the Meizu 17. The Pro variant has a faster LPDDR5 RAM as well.
Pricing and Availability
The Meizu 17 Pro starts at a price of CNY 4,299 ($605) for the 8 GB RAM 128 GB storage version and the 12GB RAM 256 GB storage version is priced at CNY 4,699 ($664). It is available in mint green, black and white colours. Meizu 17, on the other hand starts at a price of CNY 3,699 ($535) for the 8 GB RAM 128 GB storage version and the 8 GB RAM 256 GB storage version is priced at CNY 3,999 ($565). It is available in mint green, grey and white colours. Meizu 17 is available for pre-order as of now. Official sales of the Meizu 17 Pro starts on May 11 in China.
In addition to these models, there is a limited Collectors Edition Meizu 17 Pro which is priced at whopping CNY 9,999 ($1,415). Also there is an Aircraft Carrierversion of the Meizu 17 which will retail for CNY 4,299 ($605). The Collector’s Edition will arrive in stores on May 25 while the latter is expected to hit shelves on May 27.
