WhatsApp Gets Dark Mode

Messenger Rooms Come to Desktop Version of WhatsApp

Messenger Rooms is the answer from Facebook to the likes of Zoom, a video conference service. Like Zoom, it allows users to participate in video calls with multiple users at once. During its launch, Facebook had promised that Messenger Rooms would be coming to other Facebook apps as well. It has finally come to the Desktop version of WhatsApp.

The parent company, Facebook has been working on the Room integration in WhatsApp since April, which was spotted on the WABetaInfo. Any users who wish to join the Messenger Room can do so via the Desktop version of WhatsApp. Here is how to do it on WhatsApp Web:

  • Clicking on the three dots at the top left corner of the screen, then selecting ‘Create a Room’.
  • You’ll then need to click on the “Continue with Messenger” option – Facebook has said that even non-Facebook or Messenger users will be able to Messenger Rooms, but that doesn’t appear to be an option at this stage.
  • You can also start a Messenger Room from a WhatsApp chat by clicking on the attachment option and selecting the ‘Room’ video camera icon

This paves the way for users across Facebook, Instagram, or Whatsapp to connect via Messenger Rooms, bringing the full benefit of the ownership of Facebook to its users. All that remains is some back-end works for this to become a reality.
