Lenovo owned Motorola had teased over the air charging concept which would allow the devices to top up remotely. The company was serious about it and has now announced a partnership with GuRu to make this a reality and bring it to consumer devices.
GurRu is the maker of customizable over-the-air power systems that use “millimetre-wave integrated circuits, modules and proprietary Smart RF Lensing technology”. This means that Lenovo has joined most other Chinese OEMs who are now working on several true-wireless solutions which might become a reality over the next couple of years. This means you no longer need to place the device or connect it to a cable to charge your device.
Motorola calls the over-the-air charging “Motorola One Hyper.” The company had teased a video showing off two devices that are charging when up to 100 cm away from the power source. It’s done with the help of GuRu’s RF Lensing technology. This technology uses a miniature power transfer system to carry power with precision.
At the moment we neither have a timeline nor more details on the project. Our guess is that flagship devices will have this OTA charging technology up and running in a year or two. This technology will join the solutions from Xiaomi and Oppo.
