Multinational corporate Uber Inc has included integraton for UPI (Unified Payment Interface) payments into its ride-hailing app. This feature comes as an update for Uber app via Google play store. Uber India has been trying to introduce the service in India for while.
For your information, UPI is a bank-to-bank instantaneous payment system started by the National Payments Corporation of India. In a statement, an Uber representative said that “UPI is the future of Indian e-payments” and Uber wants to comfort their customers by banking on the advantage of UPI.
Now, when you open the Payment tab, you will see a new option under the ‘Add Payment Method’ from where you can add UPI as an option. Uber already accepts cash, credit/debit card, Paytm options before UPI. This update is being rolled out in phases, so it might take some time to reach every user. Besides, Uber is also trying to integrate native support from BHIM app for UPI payments too.
