Over the past two years, we are seeing a lot of changes in terms of front-facing camera placement. It went through big notches, then smaller waterdrop notch, and then punch hole camera. We are seeing a full-screen option as well i.e. pop-up camera. But for budget smartphones, the pop-up camera is still unknown because of the increase in cost. Seems like Xiaomi has a solution here because their new patents indicate something interesting.
Some patent designs of the upcoming Xiaomi smartphone is leaked suggest a different placement of front camera. As you can see from the images below, there will be two front cameras each placed at upper corners without disturbing the display. And the size of bezels and back side indicates that this will be a budget smartphone.
The design is somehow practical for this segment because even now we can see some thick bezels around these smartphones. So those who can’t buy premium smartphones can also get the experience of no notch and no cut-out display. In the pictures, there are multiple design options. So maybe Xiaomi will launch more than one type of smartphone with this type of design, or maybe Xiaomi will choose the best from these.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. We might see these smartphones probably in 2020. Maybe the Redmi 9 series will have this camera placement. There’s a lot of time to get into this series because the Redmi 8 series is very fresh right now. Well, what are your opinions on these new patents by Xiaomi?
