NPCI is developing NFC-powered offline UPI payments system in India and this will enable you to simply tap to pay even when both your phone and the shop’s PoS machine have no internet.
The upcoming feature will support transactions up to ₹2,000 using your preloaded UPI Lite balance and this feature is designed mainly for places including flights, underground metro stations, and other no-network areas.
It is also said that Banks and UPI apps are also working to support this particular NFC based payments feature, and this will be bringing UPI one step closer to working almost anywhere.
