Back in August last year, Nokia launched their first Android flagship smartphone i.e. Nokia 8. It was a decent phone for it’s price. Now today at MWC, we were expecting that Nokia will launch smartphones in mid-range, premium mid-range and budget segments. But surprisingly Nokia launched a smartphone in flagship segment as well. It’s not a successor or anything like Nokia 9, but an upgraded model of Nokia 8, The Nokia 8 Sirocco. So what’s the difference? Let’s have a look.
Starting with the differences, this Nokia 8 Sirocco now sports a 5.5” P-OLED Display which is a Quad HD panel. Whereas previous Nokia 8 has 5.3” IPS LCD Display. It is covered with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Now this time, even the back is covered with same. Yes, the Nokia 8 Sirocco has a glass back instead of aluminium. Both front and back are covered with a frame of stainless steel. So as it has a glass back, it now has Qi wireless charging support. This new variant has IP67 water and dust resistance, which is better than previous model’s IP54 splash resistance.
Talking about software, this new Nokia 8 is powered by Android One Program, so fully stock Android along with faster updates. Now the only storage option available here is 6GB+128GB, no 4GB+64GB is available. The battery is also bumped up to 3260mAh as compared to previous model’s 3090mAh. Lastly, the Rear Camera Setup is now 12MP+12MP sensor and front camera is 5MP shooter, same as Nokia 7 Plus.
Other specs are same, like Snapdragon 835 processor, display aspect ratio of 16:9 , and Type-C Port.

This new Nokia 8 Sirocco is priced at EUR 749 (USD 923, INR 59,840). It will be available from April, though the specific date and region are unknown as of now. Personally speaking, Nokia should have launched the Nokia 9 or the proper Nokia 8 successor with Snapdragon 845 processor and 18:9 panel, or leave the flagship segment empty this MWC. There’s no need to launch this 16:9 device now. Well, what are your thoughts on the same? Do share your thoughts in the comment section below. Also stay tuned with us for more information.
