For the past three years, my OnePlus 11 in Eternal Green has served as my reliable daily driver and the device has now made me sad. After updating the device to the latest update which was automatically installed on my device. Shortly after the reboot, a bright vertical green line appeared straight down the 6.7-inch AMOLED display—making my flagship smartphone the latest victim of this persistent display defect.
The issue appeared immediately after updating to software version 16.0.0.51002. What makes this particularly frustrating is that the OnePlus 11 was built and marketed around long-term software support and flagship reliability. Experiencing a permanent hardware failure right after installing this minor build update—without even transitioning to a major Android OS version—is completely unacceptable for a premium smartphone.
Out-of-Stock Display Panels
It is frustrating to know that display of the Eternal Green colour variant is currently out of stock. While OnePlus officially offers a free screen replacement policy for green line defects, an official policy provides little comfort when hardware components are unavailable, forcing users to wait indefinitely for fresh inventory.
Why Doorstep Support is Critical
This experience exposes a major oversight in standard customer care: the total lack of on-site or doorstep repair options. As a wheelchair user, physically traveling to a service center requires significant planning, coordination, and effort. When an over-the-air software update breaks a functional device, placing the physical burden of transport entirely on the customer creates an unfair barrier.
Smartphone brands must improve and make the device more reliable and they also need to make sure to have the component in stock for a quick service. It is also essential to offer free doorstep pickup and delivery options to support users.
