Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has officially released the Android 12 based OxygenOS update based on Android 12 for the OnePlus 9 series smartphones.
Currently, Oxygen OS 12 Open Beta is only available on two phones – the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro. However, it will soon be available to users of the OnePlus 9R, OnePlus 8 Series, OnePlus 7 Series, OnePlus Nord, OnePlus Nord 2 and OnePlus Nord CE.
One of the biggest changes in Android 12 is that Google is adopting a new material user interface that will no longer be part of the latest Oxygen OS. The forum announcing this release is as colorful and minimalist as “James Turrell’s Light and Space Artwork” as explained in the post.
Now comes Work-Life Balance 2.0, which includes features available in all areas. It is now supported to switch to “Life Mode” and “Work Mode” based on the time of day, WiFi network or location.
New “Neumorphism” home screen icons for stock applications in Oxygen OS 12 also expand the “shelf” feature on the left home screen. This allows for more user customization and background images. The OnePlus Scout feature, which debuted in India, is now part of the global build.
This new version of the Android 12 based OxygenOS UI comes with three different options for dark mode, allowing users to choose between gentle, medium and enhanced modes. They go from light to dark tones. Based on your wallpaper, OnePlus Canvas lets create a wireframe image on your lockscreen, coming back with more functionality. This includes more brushes and lines you can use now, and more photos and effects available to support your artistic vision.
Additionally, it brings the latest Oxygen 12 to all new OnePlus smartphones, including OS 12, Games Toolbox 2.0, floating FPS window, game filters, frame rate settings, and other tweaks from the OnePlus Nord2.
A few months ago, after OnePlus merged its business and operations into OPPO, the company revealed that it would also be merging the codebase of OxygenOS and ColorOS, with the new Oxygen OS 12 as a result.
OnePlus promises that the codebase integration will provide a fully upgraded experience on a more stable and power-saving system with solid backend support, but this will keep Oxygen OS ‘”fast and smooth DNA”.
