Just yesterday we heard the news that OnePlus is merging its team with Oppo for faster software updates. This came as a shocker even though both companies were the brainchild of BBK Electronics since the decision could affect the clean software experience that OxygenOS provides.
The reason for the concern was the fact that the OnePlus 9 Series came with Oppo’s ColorOS out of the box instead of the OnePlus’ HydrogenOS in China. Fans worried whether this would be the case for international markets too.
The official word from OnePlus has come via MySmartPrice and the company has informed that OnePlus smartphones will continue to run OxygenOS with the latest versions of Android underneath. However, we may see OnePlus taking out a page or two from the ColorOS in terms of design or functionality which almost seems inevitable. At the moment since we do not have a confirmation on that front, take it with a pinch of salt.
The major change is on the outlook as from here on OnePlus will work closer to Oppo as a sub-brand at least internally all the while operating independently, says the CEO Pete Lau. This could help the brand get access to more resources which in turn help them create better products, states the CEO. According to him, the company aims to become more efficient and deliver faster and more stable software updates with the help of this cooperation.
In case you did not know, the turn of events began when the Co-Founder of OnePlus Carl Pei left the company to head Nothing following which the current CEO of OnePlus Pete Lau took on the responsibility to manage the product strategy at Oppo.
