Oppo Partners with NIO to Develop CCC 2.0 Digital Car Keys

The brainchild of BBK electronics Oppo has announced a new strategic partnership with NIO to test and launch standardised digital keys based on CCC 2.0 protocol. When the final product will be out it will be compatible with wallet apps on smartphones and smartwatches from Oppo.

The company has also informed that it will work closely with other automobile manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers across the globe to build a strong network. The journey begins with NIO, a Chinese car manufacturer who has worked with Oppo to develop CCC 2.0 based standard digital car keys. In case you did not know, Car Connectivity Consortium or CCC, is a cross-industry alliance dedicated to solving the problem of standardization of automobile interconnection.

Using this new form of technology Oppo plans to eliminate the need for key hardware and instead connect the smartphone to the car via proprietary apps to help function the smartphone like a car key. In addition, the NFC technology in the company’s smartphone or wallet application which will be available on the Oppo smartwatches will also be able to perform the functions of a car key.

If the technology is widely adopted, and if Oppo manages to execute the plan successfully, users could soon have a single universal digital car key standard that is adhered by any smartphone brand or carmakers. The CCC 2.0 digital car key standard works with the aid of NFC technology and integrates advanced information security technology. Besides the standard employs cloud computing, secure interaction, and independent security chip to ensure safety while interacting with the vehicle.
