Oppo has announced its new Wireless Air Charge technology that charges devices completely wireless. This came a few weeks after Xiaomi showcasing their Mi Air Charge. In addition, Oppo has announced a partnership with automakers and chipmakers to share its VOCC charging technology.
Earlier today Oppo released a video explaining how the Wireless Air Charge works. The device in the video was the Oppo X 2021 rollable smartphone and it continued to charge even after lifting the device a few centimetres above the mat. During the MWC Shanghai, the company explained that the new technology can charge mobiles with a power rating of up to 7.5W and the device will receive power even if it is 10 centimetres away from the charging mat.
In comparison, the Xiaomi MI Air Charge could charge devices across a few meters using a Tower and the current is being sent as millimetre waves. Oppo might be able to extend the range by using magnetic resonance.
Oppo also announced a Global partnership with Automakers and chipmakers to spread the use of VOCC Flash charging technology. This initiative called ‘Flash Initiative’ will license other companies to use the fast charging technology. These partners include Volkswagen, Anker, and NXP Semiconductors who has mastered the making of automobiles, portable charging solutions and chip manufacturing respectively. Oppo will hand over the technical designs realised by them which will be implemented in products developed by the partners.
