The OPPO INNO Day 2021 event officially kicked off today. At this conference, the company unveiled a number of new technologies, including the first self-developed NPU chipset, the MariSilicon X.
Chen Mingyong, Founder and CEO of OPPO Smartphone Manufacturer, unveiled the new self-developed chipset.According to the this announcement, the new MariSilicon X NPU is an imaging based chipset that was independently developed by the company.
The chipset was named after the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the world, a senior executive said. This particular name is set to signify the great depth of the company’s “imagination” and innovation.
At the time of the announcement, the founder added that the tech giants need to develop key technologies to prepare for any challenges they may face in the future. In other words, this chip is also a step towards greater self-sufficiency.
The new MariSilicon X is built using a 6nm process from TSMC, which aims to improve the imaging performance of upcoming Oppo smartphones. The company also added that the new chipset will be available on handsets from next year.
The new chipset offers live AI computing to improve energy efficiency, while also offering “industry leading” ultra HDR capabilities. This chipset enables seamless live RAW captures, maximizes RGBW sensor performance and offers extreme dynamic range via 20bit HDR.
OPPO has officially announced that it will launch the new chipset in the 2022 Find X series flagship phones, marking the arrival of dual chip technology.
