The Chinese smartphone maker Oppo is a front runner when it comes to innovation in design. It started with pop-up cameras, cameras with fin-designs and now we have a new development. There are reports citing a patent reported by the company showcasing a pop-up camera fitted with a reflective mirror on one side.
The smartphone maker is coming with a unique design that will have all its cameras including the rear and front cameras tucked inside the body of the smartphone. Well, you might be thinking what is new in this, as we already have pop-up selfie cameras in quite a few models released in the past.
But this design is unique as both rear and front cameras are tucked inside the notch. Both cameras are placed inside the notch and are not visible when it pops up. Instead what we see is a set of two mirrors vertically standing in the form of a prism so as to reflect the light towards the cameras which are lying flat inside the notch.
In this manner, the OEM is trying to get prevent selfie cameras from blocking the display and at the same time keep the rear clean without any bumps for rear cameras. The prism-shaped mirrors then move up and down to adjust the light source accordingly. Besides the setup can act as both front and rear cameras from the appropriate movements of the mirrors. This setup can also make way for stunning 360-degree panorama shots without the user moving his hands.
Furthermore, according to the patent spotted by LetsGoDigital, the smartphone will also have a dedicated hardware button adjust the position of the mirrors for rear and front pics and it also allows users to control how many cameras are activated at a given moment.
