As the year progresses we have more and more OEMs working on a foldable smartphone. The trend started by Samsung with the Galaxy Fold is now catching up and several companies are following suit. As per the latest report, we have Google working on a foldable Pixel smartphone which might have different versions.
Thanks to the source, we get a glimpse on the work in progress at the Mountain view HQ of the foldable smartphones. The patent filed at the WIPO(World Intellectual Property Organization) shares mockups with different folding mechanism. The first one is an outward folding design like the one we saw Huawei Mate X foldable featured. It has a vertical hinge in cylindrical shape at the bend and is quite thick which might be some sort of method to protect the exposed display.
Next, we have an inward folding display which is similar to the one that Galaxy Fold picked. Here we can see a thick ridge supporting the frame and it might even feature a multi-segment design allowing the foldable to be folded at different sections.
Furthermore, the patent was filed way back in July 2020 and it got approved last month. This could mean that either Google would either pursue one or both od the designs in the future. Whatever might be the case, one thing is for sure that we might be able to see a foldable Pixel device not very far from the future.
