Qualcomm is partnering with BOE to manufacture flexible OLED panels with integrated 3D Sonic fingerprint sensor. BOE is one of the world’s largest LCD and OLED manufacturers and one of the few who have mastered the manufacturing of flexible displays.
With this partnership, Qualcomm aims to offer more innovative designs to smartphone makers, at the same time reducing the expense in making such displays. This will ease the burden of research and development from the shoulders of smartphone manufacturers and the expertise from BOE will help make better displays at a lesser cost.
Samsung flagships like the Note 10 and S20 Series uses ultrasonic fingerprint readers developed from Qualcomm labs. There are strong rumours of Apple looking forward to using similar technology in the fingerprint reader expected in the upcoming iPhone 12 lineup.
The consumer-ready products from the collaboration can be expected in the second half of this year. In addition, both companies aim to develop this relationship and build IoT systems as well.
