Redmi Note 5 & Redmi Note 5 Pro Now Official In India

We are hearing quite a bit about Xiaomi’s upcoming Redmi Note successor from past few months. This time Xiaomi actually delayed the unveiling of 2018 Redmi Note device. Few days ago Xiaomi India announced the launch date of a new smartphone on 14th February, and today is the same date. Today, Xiaomi officially announced the successor of last year’s Redmi Note 4 in India. Strangely, we have two successors this time, Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro. Well yesterday full spec list of both the devices got leaked, but let’s again have a look at the same, with an ‘Official’ tag.

  • Redmi Note 5 :

First let’s talk about the low-spec variant amongst the two i.e. Redmi Note 5. This Redmi Note 5 comes with almost two year old yet very efficient processor, Snapdragon 625 based on 14nm process with Adreno 506 GPU. It sports a 5.99” Full HD+ 2160×1080 display, which has the latest 18:9 aspect ratio. The display is 2.5D curved glass with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. This time there will be on-screen buttons to make bezels more thinner. This phone has 3/4GB of RAM along with 32/64GB of internal storage respectively with MicroSd Card support via hybrid dual SIM support. On the camera side this phone has 12MP Rear Camera with f2.2 lens and 1.25 micron pixels. The front camera is a 5MP shooter with LED light.

It is powered by 4000mAh battery, which is 100mAh smaller than it’s predecessor but still very huge. This phone will also have fast charging support of 380V. But the sad thing is, this phone still has old Micro USB port instead of Type-C. There will be fingerprint sensor placed at the back side. The device will run on Android Nougat with MIUI 9 out of the box. It will have 4G VoLTE, WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.2 support as well. The device weights at 180 grams and is 8.05mm thick.

  • Redmi Note 5 Pro :

Now here comes the most interesting device of today’s event, Redmi Note 5 Pro. This is the device which is a true successor of Redmi Note 4. This Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 636 Kryo based processor that’s built on 14nm process and have Adreno 506 GPU. It sports a 5.99” Full HD+ 2160×1080 display with latest 18:9 aspect ratio and thin bezels. The display is 2.5D curved glass with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. This time there will be on-screen buttons to make bezels more thinner. This phone has 3/4/6GB of RAM along with 32/64/64GB of internal storage respectively with MicroSd Card support via hybrid dual SIM support. This is the first time we have seen a Redmi smartphone with 6GB of RAM. Talking about the camera, in India this will be the 1st Redmi smartphone having a Dual Camera Setup. This phone has a 12MP+5MP Rear Camera with 1.25 micron pixel & f2.2 lens on primary 12MP camera and 1.12 micron pixel & f2.0 lens on secondary 5MP camera. It is a telephoto lens which is used for portrait shots. On the front there’s a 20MP Sony IMX376 shooter that can take portrait selfies with it’s AI based software. Also with the AI technology itself, they implemented face unlock in this device.

The device weights at 181 grams and is 8.05mm thick.

Both phones will come in Black, Gold, Blue, & Rose Gold. And both phones will be available from Flipkart, Mi.com , and other offline stores starting February 22nd. Below are the pricing and availability details :

  • Redmi Note 5 :

1. 3GB + 32GB : INR 9,999 (USD 156)
2. 4GB + 64GB : INR 11,999 (USD 187)

  • Redmi Note 5 Pro :

1. 4GB + 64GB : INR 13,999 (USD 218)
2. 6GB + 64GB : INR 16,999 (USD 265)

Personally speaking the Redmi Note 5 Pro seems to be a killer phone for it’s price. It packs all the latest pieces of tech within, except Type-C Port. But apart from this, the Redmi Note 5 Pro don’t compromise in anything. Xiaomi gave all those things which we were expecting, especially in terms of camera. It has all those things which makes it a complete 2018 mid-ranger. Talking about Redmi Note 5, it looks like an unnecessary phone in Xiaomi’s 2018 smartphone list. This is like an 18:9 panel on Redmi Note 4. But then also we can’t call it a overpriced phone due to it’s price.

So that’s all the information we have as of now. What are your thoughts on both these devices ? And which device impressed you more ? Do share your thoughts in the comment section below. Also stay tuned with us for more information.
