It is announced that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series will feature an FDA-approved heart-rate monitoring feature and the same will enable users to detect irregular heart rhythms and signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib). The new feature is dubbed Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) and the same is actually a component of the current Electrocardiogram (ECG) feature on the Samsung Galaxy Watches. The company has also received a green signal from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well.
The upcoming IHRN feature will be part of the One UI 5 Watch update and the same will be official with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series. It is also said that the IHRN feature will be available on the previous Samsung Galaxy Watch editions as well.
Having said that, the upcoming IHRN feature uses the BioActive Sensor to check for irregular heart rhythms in the background and it is also believed that the upcoming One UI 5 Watch update will offer personalized heart rate zones, improved safety features like Fall Detection and automatic SOS calls, and help users sleep better.
