India is going through the general election and it is time to use our right for the construction of the government for the next 5 years for our country. It is essential to participate in this celebration of democracy and the Election Commission of India is working hard to make things easy and accessible for every citizen of the country. The Election Commission of the country has introduced a new application dubbed the Saksham app and the same is meant for people with disabilities. So let’s get into the article to check out the details of the application.
The Saksham app is making things easy for the voter identification and registration process for people with disabilities (PwDs). The application is offering customized services and PwDs need to share their essential details with Election Commission via a specially designed app and the application is available to download on both Android and iOS phones.
The application will enable users to request any electoral services and it is worth mentioning that first-time voters are required to reveal details including their name, address, and mobile number along with their State, District & Assembly Constituency. On the other hand, the registered voters are required to offer information including their EPIC number which is mentioned on the top of the voter ID card.
After offering the information, a booth-level officer will visit them at home to fulfill other formalities. After that, it’s not long before Voter ID cards are dispatched to them and the application will also enable them to request for the wheelchair on the poll day.
The Saksham App provides a variety of features that will help PwDs register to vote, find their polling station, and cast their vote. The application features voice assistance for PwDs who are visually impaired and it also has the feature of Text-to-speech and the will be beneficial for those who are hearing impaired.
It also features some important accessibility features including large fonts and high-contrast colors, to make it easier for PwDs to use. It will also provide information on polling stations such as the location of the polling station, the accessibility features available at the polling station, and the contact details of the polling officials.
The application will also enable PwDs to register complaints about any problems they face while participating in the electoral process as well. So the new Saksham App will be a perfect companion for people with disabilities.
Don’t forget to share this with your friends and family as the application will be helpful for people with disabilities and this application will help them to use their right to vote.
