Smartphones To Get GPU Updates OTA Via Play Store Starting Later This Year

Back in December Qualcomm introduced updateable GPU drivers for Snapdragon 765 and 865 platforms during the Snapdragon Summit. Today Google announced a new Android GPU inspector tool.

The tool is a new graphic profiling tool for smartphone GPU enabling developers to tweak and optimize the game performance and push these changes as OTA updates via Play Store.this new tool supports both Adreno and Mali GPUs. Any supported devices powered by the Chipsets mentioned above can receive the updates.

The current list of supported devices includes Pixel 4 Series and Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy S10 both Snapdragon and Exynos variants. Additionally, Google promised to add many more devices shortly.

According to Qualcomm, the new optimizations can decrease GPU load by up to 40% with reduced battery drain and higher refresh rates. Google and Qualcomm have already roped in game-developers like Gameloft and Blizzard Entertainment. These updates are expected to hut supported devices later this year.
