Finally, Sony Changing The Design of Its Smartphones

So far at MWC event Sony has unveiled a new set of smartphones, which contains midrange phones as well as flagship. The flagship smartphone i.e. Xperia 1, don’t have both the hot topics of this years MWC event; Foldable Display and 5G connectivity. Almost every other company unveiled or showcased their 5G or foldable smartphone. We were expecting from Sony to at least show prototype of any of these technologies. But now Sony has shown the prototype of a smartphone, which consist one of, these feature i.e. 5G.


At the MWC event, a Sony smartphone with 5G mark on it was shown at both Sony’s and Qualcomm’s booths. The smartphone was cased that’s why no one got the chance to get hands-on this smartphone. Sony official at the event mentioned that this is not a final design of their 5G smartphone, its just an experimental design through which they want to see whether they can get good reception by changing the antenna position inside the phone. As you can see from the image below, the thick bottom bezel might have the new 5G antenna placement.

It is confirmed that this phone will have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor with X50 modem for 5G supports. Also looking at the height of this display, it clearly looks like to have 21:9 aspect ratio. This smartphone is called as ‘AG-1’ internally, but will surely get a better name at the time of launch. As of now Sony said that this smartphone will launch in near future, but there are a lot of expectations and rumours that it will be unveiled publicly at IFA 2019 event.

So that’s all the information we have as of now. Now we know that Sony is not much behind from Samsung and other OEMs in terms of 5G smartphone.
