Sony has announced that it has signed a deal to acquire Haven Studios, but the financial details of the deal remain unknown. The development comes after Haven Studios and Sony have been partnering for more than a year.
Haven Studios was founded by Jade Raymond, co – creator of Assassin’s Creed and former head of Stadia Games & Entertainment. This new gaming studio was founded by Raymond in March last year.
Although it is a freelance company, with the support of Sony, the first project is said to be a new IP for PlayStation. Details about that first game have not been revealed, but Jade Raymond says the team has “made amazing progress”.
Commenting on the acquisition, Hermann Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, said: “Jade and her team started working together in early 2021, just as Haven’s studio was on the verge of being announced. From their first pitch, we were inspired by Haven’s vision of creating a modern multiplayer experience that brings gamers together in a positive and meaningful way. We were confident in their creative and technical expertise and were happy to invest in their journey to develop a new and genuine IP for PlayStation to deliver such a desirable project”.
The acquisition of Heaven Studio means that Sony now has a team of game developers in Canada. For those who do not know, Canada is one of the largest makers of AAA games in the world, and most of the major game companies have a presence in the country.
