Sony is also launching some interesting smartphones this year, especially the flagship Xperia 1. This smartphone had a lot of new features like professional level Pro mode for video recording, 4K 21:9 display, and others. Now as the IFA event is running around, Sony has unveiled it’s compact version, Xperia 5. Before jumping into the specs, let me clear that Xperia 5 don’t denote for 5G or anything. There’s nothing special for that 5. So now let’s jump into the specs of Xperia 5.
This is a typical Xperia design we are seeing recently. A glass built with Gorilla Glass 6 on both sides and taller screen to body ratio. It sports a 6.1 inch OLED display with toned down Full HD+ (2520×1080) resolution from 4K resolution of Xperia 1, and has 449 pixel density (ppi). It is HDR supported display with DCI-P3 at 100% and has tall 21:9 aspect ratio. It comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 octa core chipset clocked at 2.84Ghz and is built on 7nm process. It has Adreno 640 GPU. It has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, along with expandable storage up to 1TB.
In camera department, it has the same Triple camera setup as Xperia 1. It contains three 12MP cameras with primary 12MP sensor having f1.6 lens, 1.4μm pixel size, dual pixel PDAF, and 5-axis OIS. Secondary is 12MP Telephoto sensor with f2.4 lens, 2x optical zoom, 1.0μm pixel size, PDAF, and 5-axis OIS here as well. Finally the third one is also a 12MP Ultra Wide-Angle sensor with f2.4 lens and 1.0μm pixel size. It can record 4K video up to 30fps, but for those cinematic shots there’s option for 24fps as well because a standard 70mm movie is recorded at 24fps. On the front it has 8MP sensor with f2.0 lens and 1.12μm pixel size. Both front and rear camera has 5-axis EIS also.
This device runs on Android 9 Pie out of the box. It packs in a smaller 3140mAh battery but with 18W fast charging. There’s Dolby Atmos supported stereo speakers, though it lacks the 3.5mm jack. The fingerprint sensor is located at right side of this phone. For connectivity it has 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, aptX HD, and Type-C port. It has Black, Grey, Blue, and Red colour options. For waterproofing it is IP68 certified.
