The smartphone brands are launching more and more 5G enabled devices in India but the 5G connectivity is yet to be rolled out in the country. DoT has allocated 5G spectrum to popular telecom operators including Jio, Airtel, Vi, and MTNL for 5G trials in the country. Having said that, Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, and Mavenir engaged in 5G trials in India.
Apart from the telecom operators and smartphone manufacturers in India, the government is also involved actively to facilitate the rollout of 5G services. The Department of Telecom has joined its hand with eight agencies – Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bengaluru, Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research (SAMEER) and Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology (CEWiT) for the research project called ‘Indigenous 5G Test bed project’.
Speaking about the availability of 5G connectivity, the high-speed internet service will be available in 13 cities including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Delhi, and Mumbai.
