As expected before, Vivo has announced their new flagship smartphone with the latest tech available to them, the Vivo NEX 3. This NEX series bought some new changes in the less bezel trend. In NEX 3 we can see some changes like more thin bezels, side curve bezels, and upgraded internals. So without wasting any more time, let’s get into the same.
Display & Design:
Starting with display & design, it sports a huge 6.89 inch Waterfall FullView display with FullHD+ (2256×1080) resolution and 363 pixel density (ppi). It is an AMOLED panel with HDR10+ support. The reason behind this big name of this display is it’s almost 90° curved edges from the sides that will give very immersive experience using the phone. And these edges are not only for that experience, it will work as touch sensitive buttons for power button and volume rocker as well.
That’s because Vivo ditched all physical buttons here and all those actions will be done by touching the sides. Though there are tiny bezels at top and bottom, which gives this the look of Samsung Galaxy S9. From the back it looks fairly good. It has a circular camera ring, but apart from that there’s not much fancy designing done at the back.
Camera:
This Vivo NEX 3 has triple camera setup at the back. The primary is a 64MP Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor with f/1.8 lens, 0.8μm pixel size, and PDAF. Secondary is 13MP wide angle sensor with f/2.5 lens. Lastly, it has 13MP Telephoto sensor with 2x Zoom and f/2.5 lens. It can record videos up to 4K at 30fps. The front camera is a motorized 16MP shooter with f/2.1 lens. It has Portrait Master’s Hyper HDR technology with gives impressive HDR shots in critical conditions, as said by the company.
Other Specifications:
This phone comes with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 Plus octa core chipset clocked at 2.96Ghz along with overclocked Adreno 640 GPU. It has 8GB RAM with 128GB internal storage for it’s 4G variant, and 8/12GB RAM with 256GB internal storage for 5G variant. This device runs on Android 9 Pie out of the box with FunTouchOS 9.1 on top. It runs on a massive 4500mAh battery with whopping 44W fast charging support. The fingerprint sensor is present under the display itself.
There’s a single speaker at the bottom and a 3.5mm headphone jack with 32bit sound support. For connectivity, it had the up to date 5G, but the base variant don’t support the same. Other connectivity options are dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and Type-C port. It is very thick at 9.4mm and weighs 217 grams. It has gradient black and gradient white colour options to choose from.

So that’s all the information we have as of now. Personally speaking, I am not very much impressed with the NEX 3. Though it is very good in some aspects, by it also has some downsides as well. For example, it doesn’t have OIS even in primary camera. Also it supports 4K recording only at 30fps, no 60fps is available. And it’s a bit disappointing for a $700 flagship. The display design is good, but the top and bottom chins are slightly less thinner as compared to sides, and that’s noticeable. Also we don’t know how well that touch sensitive buttons will work?
