In fact, the home screen gets a significant upgrade with more colors, rounder UI components, and better customization.
What’s new in vivo’s Origin OS Ocean
Customizable Icons and Folders
vivo’s new Origin OS Ocean brings router and customizable icons to a card-type layout. You can resize icons in small, medium and large sizes, and you can add custom folders of different colors.Android 12’s dynamic theme changes icons and folders to a newer OS that captures wallpaper and theme colors.
Origin Cover Lock Screen
Vivo’s new lock screen is officially called Origin Cover, and supports quick actions like dragging the fingerprint button to the designated app on the lock screen and opening your favorite apps.
Revamped Control Center
It’s comes with a redesigned control center that offers more information about battery, network, and sensitive permissions at a glance.
New Special Oceans Live Wallpaper
In addition to the wallpapers available last year, Vivo OriginOS Ocean also offers a new custom wallpaper called Ocean Live Wallpaper, created in collaboration with Star Trek’s Special Effects team.
Nano Origin Music Player
Vivo’s Nano Music Player is still available in the OriginOS Ocean version. You can control the music player with an icon on the lock screen that allows for a simple and non-intrusive listening experience.
Nano Notifications
The Nano Notification gets new optimizations in Ocean OS, with more colors and enhancements that display smaller notifications on the icons. Vivo adds that more apps and services now support nano notifications.
Emergency Calls
It will use a 3-channel information transmission system for emergency calls. The OS sends emergency calls via phone call, text message, as well as a flash message (Home Screen Alert). Additionally, the caller’s location will be displayed in the Emergency Contact.
Nano Reading + New Font
Adding breakpoints to a long article with a page flip-like animation as vivo’s nano reading moves on to the next section. Vivo says it enables the reader to have a real life experience.
New Multi Window Interaction
The new OS gets better multi-window interaction. You can basically swipe up from the bottom left corner of the display to resize an app to a smaller window. You can drag / drop this window for a split screen configuration.
Faster Payments from Home Screen
Like last year’s OriginOS Ocean Repeat also comes with a single-tap payment via on-screen fingerprint recognition.
New Camera UI with Multi-Functional Focus Ring
The phone comes with a multi-functional focus ring that controls stabilization, focus length, and exposure. Additionally, custom swipe gestures can add live effects to the viewfinder, allowing users to quickly and accurately add effects.
Memory Slimming + Nano motion
Vivo’s memory slimming and memory fusion technology reduce unnecessary processes and save memory space. Vivo says this will increase memory storage by up to 50%. Also, the transition between animations is smoother and more natural than ever.
Privacy Features
When using important services such as camera, recording, and location, the corresponding icons pop up on the right side of the status bar. You can slide those icons down for more information. Origin OS Ocean comes with a privacy system in which you can swipe left from the dock below and enter your private privacy after verifying your fingerprint.
Vivo adds that this private space offers multiple security layers through biometric verification and hardware level encryption.
Other features
Quantum Kit, like Huawei’s multi-device collaborative software, supports collaborative editing, cross-device file transfer, and seamless drag and drop transfer between other devices.
