Vivo V9 Now Official In India

Over the past few months we are starting to see some smartphones that are being launched with iPhone X like notch over the display. Also we have seen a lot of smartphones with the latest 18:9 aspect ratio. With every smartphone launch, we are saying that this smartphone comes with latest 18:9 aspect ratio display. Now seems like this 18:9 is also going to be old, because today in India Vivo launched their new smartphone i.e. Vivo V9 which brings a new aspect ratio. So let me see what are the specs of this device.

Let’s start with display, it sports a 6.3 inch edge to edge display with all new 19:9 aspect ratio, this new ratio is because of the notch placed above the display. So after excluding the notch part of the display, we can get full 18:9 display for content viewing. This is a Full HD+ display with the resolution of 2280 x 1080 and the screen to body ratio is 90%. Under the hood this phone comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 626 octa core processor with Adreno 506 GPU, here I was expecting at least Snapdragon 630 processor. It has 4GB of RAM along with 64GB of internal storage with expandable storage up to 256GB via Micro SD Card. This phone is packed with a 3260mAh battery, with no fast charging.

Talking about the camera, it has 16MP + 5MP Dual Rear Camera Setup with f2.0 lens and f2.4 lens respectively. With this secondary camera and Vivo’s AI technology, this phone will take better portrait shots as said by Vivo itself. On the front there’s a 24MP shooter with f2.0 lens. The front camera has some features like AI Face Beauty mode, AR stickers, and Face Unlock. This device runs on latest Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with Vivo’s FunTouch OS 4.0 , here surprised to see Vivo giving latest Android version. It weights at 150 grams and is 7.89mm thin. Connectivity options are 4G LTE, VoLTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, Micro USB 2.0 port, USB OTG support, FM Radio, and 3.5mm headphone jack. This phone comes in three different colour options; Pearl Black, Champagne Gold, and Sapphire Blue.

Pricing and Availability:

  • This phone is priced at INR 22,990 (USD 354)
  • It will be available via both offline and online stores.
  • The Pre-orders are up now and it will be available from 2nd of April.

So that’s all the information we have as of now. Personally speaking, the phone disappointed me in the processor department. Given the price point, it should come with at least Snapdragon 630 processor, which is available even on phones that are priced half to this phone. Also, I am doubting about the AI functionalities that Vivo is bringing here because not everyone is Google or Apple. But apart from these points, the phone is looking decent.
