It really feels bad when you accidentally send an unwanted message to your business or family related persons, and from some time we are hearing that WhatsApp may bring a feature which will allow you to delete the accidentally sent messages. And now the good news is here, as the Facebook-owned world’s most favourite instant messaging application WhatsApp starts to rolling out ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature in its latest beta update.
The ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature will allow users delete messages sent to their contacts, and the feature not only lets you delete text messages, but, also allows you to delete photos, videos, GIFs, location, and documents. The new feature can be seen in the WhatsApp Beta version 2.17.399, but it looks like it could be a server-side rollout; others on that version don’t have the same functionality and the company hasn’t mention exact timeline of the feature. If you are not a beta tester of the app, then enroll yourself into the official beta program and grab the new feature.
How to delete?
Android users need to long-press on a message and tap on the delete icon. After that, tap on ‘Delete For Everyone’. And for iPhone users, need to long-press the message, choose Delete from the menu, tap on the delete icon, and then tap on ‘Delete for Everyone’. Moreover, the feature also allows you to select multiple messages to delete at once.
Once you have deleted the message, it will be replaced with “This message was deleted” on the recipient’s end. But keep in mind that you can only delete the message on the recipient’s end within seven minutes of sending it.
It is really a really handy feature by WhatsApp and I appreciate it. Share your thoughts about the new feature in the comments section below!
