The Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi has landed in troubled waters as the State Intellectual Property Office in China declared that the litigation request from the company was denied by the Beijing Intellectual Property Court.
The company had filed an application for ‘MIX’ name trademark but was rejected as the court found it resembled the naming scheme of its rival. According to the source the trademark application bearing the identity of No. 29673851 for “MIX” that is designated to gadgets like ‘computers; pedometers; mobile phones; sensors, etc.’ This was rejected as it was accused of being similar to the MIX trademark by Meizu.
As the products bearing the MIX moniker was already in the market from Meizu and since both companies aim to release similar products with the “MIX” term the litigation request was rejected. If you did not know Xiaomi debuted the Mi Mix series back in October 2016 whereas Meizu had unveiled a smartwatch with Mix name two months prior.
