Along with the Mi 8, the Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi unveiled Mi 8 Explorer Edition to mark its 8th anniversary. The design and specification details are same expect a noticeable difference, and that’s in the security option. Let’s check out what’s new and the difference.
Design
The device looks similar to iPhone X and it is coming with the notch on the top of the display, the device rear side is made of glass. The device has small bezels at the top, left and right, and the bottom bezel is relatively larger. Moreover, the device also comes with a transparent back which shows off the innards of the device.
Specification
The Mi 8 sports 6.21 inch FHD+ Always-On AMOLED display with 18.7:9 aspect ratio and has 2248 x 1080 pixels resolution. Moreover, there’s a notch on the top of the display which accommodates front camera, earpiece, proximity sensor, the device is also coming with Infrared Face Unlock feature which allows to unlock the device using even in the dark, and the infrared lens is also resting on the notch.
The smartphone is powered by octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor and paired with 8 GB RAM along with Adreno 630 GPU for the graphical task. In terms of storage, the device is coming with 128 of onboard storage.
Moving to the camera department, the device has dual camera setup at the back which is placed in the vertical orientation. And the dual camera setup is coming with the combination of 12 megapixel (f/1.8 aperture, 1.4 µm pixel size) + 12 megapixel (f/2.4 aperture, 1.0 µm pixel size) Dual Pixel Auto-focus with 4-axis OIS, AI Scene Detection, AI Portrait Mode, Studio Lighting and LED flash. The device also features 20 megapixel front facing camera with f/2.0 aperture, 1.8 µm pixel size, AI Beauty Mode, AI Portrait Mode. Talking about the connectivity, the device supports 4G VoLTE, Dual-frequency GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi, NFC, USB Type-C.
For security, here’s a big difference as this device features an in-display fingerprint scanner and 3D Face Unlock. The device runs on Android Oreo 8.1 which is based on MIUI 9 and it can update to the brand new MIUI 10, the whole device is backed on 3,400 mAh battery to keep the lights on. For colour choices, the smartphone will be available in Black, White, Blue, and Rose Gold.
Pricing and availability:
The device has the price tag of ¥3699 (approx. ₹39,000). The device will be available in China from June 5 but there is no information about the availability of the device in other parts of the globe.
